2004-2005 - national renumbering

A new numbering plan will take effect in Mongolia during 2004-2005. Specific time frames for changes were not known.

For calls into Mongolia, a carrier selection code digit immediately follows country code +976:

The carrier selection code digit is:

Therefore a call into Ulaanbataar via Mongolia Telecom are dialled from other nations in the +976 1 1 xxxxxx format. Calls to a Mongolian Railway number are of format +976 2 1 xxxxxx. Carrier selection codes do not apply to Mobile numbers in +976 9... format.

Within Mongolia, 01+ trunk prefix followd by area code and subscriber number is used to reach Mongolia Telecom numbers. 02+ is used in a similar manner to dial Mongolia Railway Authority numbers.

Area code digits will be as follows, where C represents the carrier selection digit 1 or 2 as dialled from outside Mongolia:

Region/service                Area code format
==============                ================
