Within Mongolia, 01+ trunk prefix followd by area code and subscriber number is used to reach Mongolia Telecom numbers. 02+ is used in a similar manner to dial Mongolia Railway Authority numbers.
Area code digits will be as follows, where C represents the carrier selection digit 1 or 2 as dialled from outside Mongolia:
Region/service Area code format ============== ================ Capital region - Ulaanbaatar +976 C 1 ... Capital region - Suburban +976 C 2 ... Central and Northern regions +976 C 3 ... Western region +976 C 4 ... Eastern region +976 C 5 ... Mobile +976 9 ...Area codes (excluding country code, carrier selection and prefixes) will have 1 to 4 digits.
Only Ulaanbaatar will be based on a single-digit area code (+976 C 1).
The only new format 2-digit geographic area code assigned is for Baganuur (+976 C 21).
Mobile numbers will be based on 2-digit area codes.
Mongolia is divided into Aimags (provinces) - the aimag centre (provincial capital) will have 3-digit area codes, with third digit '2' (e.g. +976 332 for Arkhangai's capital Tsetserleg City).
4-digit area codes will be for smaller ("Sumun") centres within the Aimag.
The following are the 2004-2005 area code changes:
