On 1 August 2003, 6-digit mobile subscriber numbers in Laos (+856 20) were changed to 7-digit by prepending a digit as follows:

April 2003 - Millicom mobile numbers

New mobile carrier Millicom entered service in Laos in 2003. It was assigned numbers under +856 20 7xxxxx and +856 20 8xxxxx.

15 September 1994

Uniform plan of 2-digit area code followed by 6-digit area code began. '21' was prepended to 4-digit subscriber numbers outside Vientiane.
