1 August 2002 - expansion to 8-digit national numbers

Existing 6-digit Lesotho telephone numbers have expanded to 8-digit numbers beginning 1 August 2002.

Telecom Lesotho geographic numbers were prepended by '22'. For example, 3xxxxx was converted to 22 3xxxxx (or +266 3xxxxx became +266 223xxxxx in international format).

Existing Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) numbers of the form 8xxxxx were prepended by '58' to become 58 8xxxxx (in international format: +266 8xxxxx became +266 588xxxxx).

Existing Econet Ezi-cel numbers of the form 6xxxxxxx were already in 8-digit format, and did not need to be changed (in international format: +266 6xxxxxxx).

The permissive dialling period for either old or new format numbers ends 31 October 2002.
